School Workshops in 2010

Cath Senker (Author) and Howard Davies (Photographer)

Cath Senker and Howard Davies have both worked on many non-fiction books, covering social and historical issues as well as looking at the lives of children in diverse cultures.

We offer workshops for Years 2–6, with sessions for year-group assemblies and workshops for individual classes, where we can offer a greater interactive element.

For assembly sessions, we discuss the background stories of some of our books using whiteboard displays and Q and As. We show how a book is created, including how families are selected to appear in it, illustrate how good design can illuminate a story and outline the production process from initial concept to published book.

Our class workshops are based on the assembly sessions but include an interactive exercise during which the children can start to make their own non-fiction book. The workshops complement the geography / history / PSHE / citizenship and literacy elements of the primary curriculum.

You can book us individually or together. For full details of the workshops and fees please contact Howard.

Howard also offers a workshop for Years 5 – 9 exploring media myths about refugees and asylum, illustrated with photographs from twenty years of experience documenting refugee lives in the UK and worldwide.
